The Desire To Be Seen: Who Are You When No One is Watching?

Peoples' behavior on social media is something I’ve observed and questioned for years.
Along with questioning my own behavior patterns/changes, reasons, intentions, and choice of words and images when I post.
And here are some questions I’ve forced myself to ask:

Is it for my efforts to be acknowledged?
Financial status, to be idolized?
Material possessions, to be coveted?
Physical appearance, to be admired?
Lifestyle, to be envied?
Family life, to be respected?
Or is it just the desire to be seen?
If you didn’t have an audience watching your curated life on Instagram… Would you be putting in the same effort into your lifestyle?
Would you be making the same financial desicions, if no one saw or knew what you bought or what vacation you took yourself on?
If you weren’t always on your phone, taking photos/vids, editing them for hours, posting and nurturing your audience on these apps…
Would your physical appearance, financial situation, lifestyle choices, and family treatment change?
Would all the time I spend on social media be spent more beneficially if I deleted all my social media apps?
Who are you when no one is watching?
Underneath it all, what is the root desire to post that story?
The desire to be seen, acknowledged, admired, and envied?
If you’re posting to inspire… is your shit even inspiring or is that the lie you convince yourself of to keep feeding the ego with pride, admiration, idolization from the validation you receive after posting?
After journaling these questions, I came to the conclusion that I am here on social media to share my thoughts, concepts, theories, etc. to find others who resonate with what I write about, who recognize the truth, and who keep me accountable to what I say.
There is a small splash of stories I post of my travels, and that’s to show those who don’t leave their office desk, that the world is waiting for them too.

Social media is one helluva drug.
In a world where we are so caught up in consuming and keeping up with the Kardashians... we have forgotten the true purpose in life and the original use of these apps. Connecting with one another.
If you read all this without getting triggered, and instead you're asking yourself these questions to find an answer for yourself…
And if anything I share has ever resonated with you, let's connect.
Life is better when you have a bestie you can visit on the coast of Italy whenever you want… no?
Unfortunately, I don't have a house on the coast of Italy... yet…
But you should know how nice it is to have friends scattered all over the world that you can come visit whenever you want.
Be kind in your relationships and grow more loving with each connection you have. Find deep gratitude for those you care about, and for them choosing you in their life. This will unlock more magic in your reality.
